Skamper Ramp

Jules, who used to design a pool company's website told me about a product to help pets and other critters out of a pool or spa.  It's called a Skamper Ramp.  The reviews on it were mixed but most of the complaints were that it didn't support a large dog.  Both Kanan and Cooper can get out of the spa on their own.  Kanan routinely takes a dip in the spa but Cooper is a little afraid but he has had a mishap where we made it look like an accident and he "fell in" and was able to get out on his own.  We mainly need it for the cats and also for any other hapless creatures that might fall in and drown.  In addition to the squirrel, we once had a rat drown in the spa.  That a terrible way to go and I keep thinking about those little critters paddling and trying to keep their heads above water until they tire out and slip below the water.  There are many videos demonstrating the Skamper Ramp and one even shows an opossum and a frog using it to save themselves.  Another video that explains how it is used is HERE.  We ordered ours from Amazon.com and it comes from PetCo.

Weekend Update:  Jessica's company is having a party at Universal Studios on Saturday so we will have the boys with us.  She's only allowed one guest so she would have to pay for the boys and most of the rides are "too scary" for them anyway.  Saturday morning, we are taking them to visit Great Grandpa George and Robin in Burbank.  They have a cactus garden and Robin is going to give Ryan clippings so he can grow his own cactii.  He is really looking forward to this!  He has his cactus planter here but want his own.  He tells me that he "misses his cactus."

  1. Hi Darylynn,
Maybe where you live you have more critters? When I lived with my parents in Woodland Hills we had a pool and never an animal fell in?? Also at Paul's never a problem? I guess it is better safe than sorry since that would be an awful death for sure. Have fun in my neck of the woods tomorrow :)) Hugs, Dru

  2. Excellent idea.
My dog Brandy, gone 3 years now, fell into the pond once and she was crippled with arthritis and nearly drowned. I had a hard time pulling her out. I will have to get one for my pond. this is a great idea as so many animals come to drink from the pond all the time.
    Have a great weekend.

  3. That ramp is a really cool idea. That should do the trick to keep everyone safe.

I had to laugh outloud when I heard that Ryan misses his cactus. Go figure. Kids :-) HUGS

  4. How sweet that Ryan misses his cactus when he's at home. He'll have 2 gardens to tend now.
