We've tried kale twice now and still can't find a recipe we can enjoy. We first tried stirfrying it and that didn't turn out well. Yesterday, I made kale chips. You bake pieces of kale in the oven that you've drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Jeff thought it was awful. I thought it had a bit of an Asian flair to it so suggested we might like it if we drank copious amounts of sake with it. I'm not giving up though. I have a Bobby Flay recipe that I'm trying tonight and another Martha Stewart recipe for "Peanut Kale Slaw." On the other hand, I really liked the Hemp Hearts that I showed you yesterday. It has a nice nutty flavor and I added it to my Uncle Sam cereal. I also liked the Acai Smoothies that I made with vanilla soy milk. I found chia seeds at Sprouts Market so will have to figure out what to do with them other than grow a chia pet.
We had a nice hike with the boys and then they ran through the sprinkler attachment with the wiggly tubes that Jessica bought for them. I took a video so may post that when I get the chance.
Hi! I like kale best as a salad and I know you like salads. There is a restaurant chain called the Veggie Grill and they have the best kale salads, so fresh and colorful! I like the All Hail Kale with corn salsa, agave infused walnuts, quinoa and ginger-papaya dressing, check out their menu for other salads, maybe you'll get some ideas. Sometimes I just add chopped kale to whatever salad that I am making. Sounds like you are enjoying your grandsons, can't believe that my granddaughter just turned 18 and graduated high school! Where does the time go?!!
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteI never could get into kale so you can't sell me on anything made with kale! I will try to come back and see if you possted the video if I don't get to busy at work. Tomorrow is the big day for Paul. I posted about it Monday I think??
Have a great day. Hugs, Dru
Hi Darylynn;
ReplyDeleteYucky on the kale for me never liked the stuff.. I hope you find a recipe that will make you happy. ;-} I'm looking forward to seeing the video of the boys running through the sprinklers. Have a great day ahead my friend. Hugs
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteHope Martha and/or Bobby Flay come thru for you. For me, I think I'll just continue to enjoy kale as a garden plant.
I really appreciate everything I learn from you. Always a teacher. Anyway, thanks for all the info. Hugz!
I have never found kale anywhere before, so have not tried it yet. :( Glad you had a nice hike with the boys. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
As it's part of the cabbage family, I'd gratin it with bacon, and top with breadcrumbs and cheese.
ReplyDeleteBut that's because I'm a piggy, and have totally ignored the fact that you're trying to be healthy and good!
Just blogged. Surprisingly enough the kids gave me little trouble at the party, it seemed to be the parents that were the problem!!!!

Haven't had kale in a long time but I recall making it with some recipe for lamb. I know my mother used to make it for us but no idea how she served it.
ReplyDeleteHope your Wednesday is going along nicely.
Hugs
Go girl on finding a recipe for kale. Better you than me. I just don't have the time so I will be glad to hear what you come up with. I am game for the "hearts" and the smoothies next time when I go to Costco. HUGS
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn I tried to comment to you several times from my ipad but it does like your blog page it hates wordpress. I can't figure out why it hates your page you don't have much on it! I cannot stand that stuff, I used to live next door to some Hawaiian's and they ate it everyday and fed it me, there home smelled of it. They were nice people though and very sweet. Have your tried Quinoa it has a lot of protein in it and I fed it to Steve last night the very recipe I am going to post here and he liked it! that makes me happy!

D-Interesting who is visiting your blog from Rancho Cordova that is where I graduated from and has visiting my blog. I would love to know who she is, that is so funny and that is about 15 or 20 miles away in Sac County. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn, I just posted to my blog, a follow up to last week about my dad's heart-he is ok. I like Kale, but I have only eaten it cooked. I first learned about it from Olive Garden's Toscana soup. It is the light colored soup with the potatoes and sausage and the green stuff is the kale. My cousin has MS and swears by it. So I have added it to several soups. I also sautee it with onions , add water or chicken broth and seasoning, bring it up to a slight boil and then turn it off and cover. It is a bit touch when it is not cooked. Fresh is better and it tends to get tougher as it gets older. I have added Chia seeds to my yogurt. I need to get some more. I like to watch Dr. Oz everyday. He sure is making the health food industry popular!
