Pink Slime and now Meat Glue!
It's enough to make anyone become a vegetarian! Last month we learned about "pink slime" in our hamburgers and now we are hearing about "meat glue" used most often in filet mignon. While pink slime was mostly just gross, meat glue has more potential for danger not to mention ripping us off thinking we are getting an expensive cut of meat when really it's just cheap stew meat chemically glued together. HERE's the story about meat glue and a San Francisco chef demonstrates how meat is glued. In a nutshell, meat glue is produced through the fermentation of bacteria. Added to meat, it forms a nearly
invisible and permanent bond to any other meat you stick it to so cheap stew meat can be coated with it and shaped into what looks like a filet mignon or other expensive cut of meat. The reason it's dangerous is glued pieces of meat can contain bacteria on the inside where it is often not cooked thoroughly. Bottom line: if you're going to order a filet mignon or any other piece of meat that could be glued, make sure it's cooked well-done.

Disgusting to say the least! The meat business has changed since I was involved with it through my ex. Thank goodness I rarely eat beef anymore. Bottom line would be to stay away from Filet Mignon...
ReplyDeleteHave a great day my friend. Hugs
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteI use to love my Costco Filet Mignon's and I am a med rare person too boot! Too scary and gross to even buy them anymore :((((( Anything to make a few extra bucks these days and to poison us even veggies they say are organic aren't I have read. I guess the only way you would really be safe is to grow you own veggies. Have a great Wednesday. Hugs, Dru
Gee... can't they just leave the meat alone???

It is also in some cheeses and tofus. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI am eating more veggies and beans and brown rice lately. And now with mad cow making a comeback its just upsetting.
We eat mostly chicken here. Even when we go out we usually eat salmon or pasta or something. We have a hummingbird nesting on our patio and the two babies are so cute with their long beaks. I will post a picture soon. Hope the sun comes out soon. Have a nice weekend! Hugs
