Now Hunter is nowhere near that bad! Meow weighed 39 lbs and Hunter "only" weighs 19 lbs but that's still a good 7 to 9 pounds over what he should weigh. Look how similar Hunter looks to Meow.
What we need to do is stop the "grazing" (where full food bowls are left out all day) that we are allowing now. We need to get Hunter Science Diet R/D and feed him the specified amount in the morning and evening. It says they can lose 20% of their body weight in 3 months so by summer, he should be down to around 15 pounds. Will keep you posted as to whether he gets into swimsuit shape in time.

Jack used to be that large too - 19 pounds and we have a little cup of food that holds what he can have for the day and he gets it in little bits over the course of the day. He is now about 16 pounds and has stayed that weight for the past few years. He seems to be much, much happier for sure!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day - it's super rainy here. Which I don't mind, but I would like some nice weather to get my gardening done!
bailey (and jasmine) were never that large... but the vet said both were overweight so on a diet they went! it was a bit easier cuz they were already on the morning/evening feeding schedule like the dogs had been.... looking forward to seeing hunter's "south beach" during and after pics!!!!
ReplyDeleteya.... i was soooo sad when i read that story yesterday... although i'm sure the toting him around to talk shows helped add to his stress.... WHAT was the original owner thinking to let him get up to 39 pounds? eek!
i've decided i need to get off my lacy behind (or rather on it! hee hee) and add all our hikes and the pics we've been taking my blog! i need to either pick out a picture storing place (i don't think flicker holds too many these days for free?) or *gasp* switch to blogger! lol!
have a wonderful week! HUGz (i have been here reading and enjoying the pics of the boys and all your posts... just been a bad blog visitor and haven't been posting!!!)
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that diet! Sam lost weight but BE didn't lol well I lie BE lost 3 lbs and that was it. I did stop the crazing I only fill the dry food feeder daily and they split a small can of wet food now. Some cats just get fat! Of course 39 lbs was way to fat and very very sad :((((( Hunter is so cute!! Hugs, Dru
it's easier said than done though, I'm always trying to get Dud to lose a bit of lard, but he finds ways around it. For example, he'll find his speedy paws and nip up as quick as a flash to pinch something and scarper before I can stop him. He has his food weighed out every day, but he is still a big old cat. Not as big as old Meow there, but bigger than I'd like.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you get on, I'll be gleaning any tips that I can!

Garfield couldn't be fat if he wanted to. He carpet surfs so, he is fairly active for an older gentleman.
ReplyDeleteSince he had a urinary tract infection he is on special foods but I buy the grocery store ones as he wouldnt eat the prescription ones.
He eats both wet and dry since they need the water in the wet to prevent future infections.
Hope the dieting works well!
Hugs
OMG Poor Hunter! I think he looks pretty good. The Vet that Dahli goes to is such a fanatic on weight. Dahli's the perfect weight but I still get the lecture every time she has an appointment. Too Funny! Good luck with the diet, Hunter.
ReplyDeleteI think Leon needs to lose weight too. He is a house cat so he eats and sleeps.
ReplyDeleteI think Margaritas aren't really drinking ;-) HUGS
Aww poor kitty died over the weekend he was so cute. Well you know my cat is also fat but we've tried to put her on diet and only give her like 1/4 cup cat food each day and then in the evening a handful of morsels and she eats them all. We don't plan to put her on a diet she is 12 years old in people years. She does not get outside to run around so that is why our cat is fat. Have a great week! Hugs
