Remember our Desperate Housewives homework assignment where we wrote about household tips? I have a really unique method for cleaning soap scum off of glass shower doors. Granted, our doors are never that soap scummy because we always use a squeegee (California Water Blade) on our shower glass after every shower. Jeff and I have a routine where we ask if the other person is going to shower next so the last to shower can do the squeegee. Anyway, I googled "how to get soap scum off glass shower doors" and came up with lots of suggestions. Many used commercial products, some used homemade methods like vinegar or baking soda but the tip I liked the sound of best was to use dryer sheets! I liked the idea because it didn't use harsh chemicals and I figured it was a cheap and safe method to try. Guess what? It worked! All I did was take a dryer sheet, get it a little wet and rub the areas that had soap scum. I used a total of six sheets for the three glass panels of our shower. After I rubbed with the dryer sheets, I rinsed with water and then squeegeed. I dried with one of those yellow cloths guys use when they wash their cars. Jeff was really impressed and he applied a coat of Rain-X which repels water and helps make water droplets bead up so they are easy to wipe away. Another suggestion I didn't try was to use my favorite standby- the Magic Eraser! As you know, I'm a huge fan of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It's great for getting marks and dirty fingerprints off walls and doors. A preventative suggestion that I read about several times was to not use bar soap, especially Dial which leaves a lot of soap scum. If you must use bar soap, instead of a liquid, then use Dove. Our shower is probably 4 or 5 years old now and looks like new! I just took this photo. Next up is the downstairs shower which has a total frameless glass door.

Happy Memorial Day!
Happy Memorial Day- the unofficial kick off to summer! And we are spending it the way I like to: a day at Fiesta Hermosa. Hermosa Beach is a beach I used to go to a lot when I was growing up on the westside. We've had some unseasonably cool weather but Monday is back up into the mid-80's here and should be nice- in the 70's- at the beach.

Hi Darylynn;
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day Monday. I used to use dryer sheets when I had shower glass doors. They really work well, even the plain supermarket brand. Enjoy your day at Fiesta Hermosa. Hugs
Happy Memorial Day, have fun at Fiesta Hermosa - such a beautiful name! :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the beach! Great tips on cleaning the shower! I use bounce dryer sheets to get the love bugs off the front of my car. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day. Enjoy your wonderful temps... We've been in the 90's all week with today's temp nearing 96... Gonna be a hot one here....
ReplyDeleteThe soap scum tip sounds cool... if I ever get my fancy shower in my dream house... I'll be sure to use it!
I read on Marge's site a while back a ton of uses for dryer sheets. I need to invest. Your shower certainly looks as good as new.
ReplyDeleteI hate trying to clean my showers. We live in a hardwater area, so no mater how hard I try, I still end up with limescale marks. I give up then go bonkers trying to get them sparkling. A challenge you'd like??!?! Come over and work your magic! ;o)
enjoy your beach day x
That looks nice Darylynn I will try the dryer sheets. I want to know how to get the dirt off the bottom of the non slip shower floor. After Steve works on cars on his days off it gets so dirty. He will not use the liquid soap. I don't buy Dove. Our shower is pretty clean but we have issues with the shower floor. grr that drives me insane.
ReplyDeleteI too have been in a serious car accident I was the only one injured and the car hit on my side of the car, I have neck and shoulder issues also I fell on my tailbone twice. Once from one of those banana chairs was not fully locked and I fell through and hit my tailbone it was very sore, then I did it again several years later when I fell off a chair while standing on it, I know that was risky but I did it and I learned never to do it again I now use the stepping stool every single time to get things down. But I have back issues now.
Enjoy your weekend sounds fun. I am going to relax today though it is very beautiful out and I want to go somewhere but it's to busy on the road and Steve is off working on cars today.
Happy Memorial Day Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a wondeful day in Hermosa Beach!
