I guess having a herniated disc might not be what most people consider "good news" but compared to my fears, it's very good news. When I went in for xrays on February 19th, the Physician Assistant showed me what he called a "bony mass" near my spine. Do not ever use the word "mass" without expecting one to immediately panic. Although he said he wasn't that concerned, he did say, "You don't have cancer in your family, do you?" So now I'm reeling! The doctor is out of town so there was no one to ask for further clarification. The PA sent me for the MRI on Friday so all that week and this week I've been fearing the worst! The doctor says the "bony mass" near my spine is just a bone spur... a growth of cartilage near my spine that often comes as we age. No big deal! The sciatica pain I have been having is a result of a herniated disc. He asked if I'd been in an accident or had an injury to cause a pretty badly herniated disc. No! Nothing. I've never had back problems at all so it's a mystery to me how this happened. I'm going in next week for a cortisone injection. That's not as simple as it sounds. I have to have an epidural just like women have when they're having a baby before they can inject the cortisone into my spine. But compared to my fears run amok, I'm fine with all this! Thanks for your prayers, good wishes and concern! Phew!
Looking forward to the boys being here tomorrow. In my melodrama, I was wondering if I'd see them grow up!
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteI have had cortisone shot before in my neck after a car accident after the injection in 1992 I have never had a bit of neck trouble at all. A few years after that I had a problem with my wrist and they gave me another shot there and never a problem again. It is a miracle drug let me tell you! I am happy to hear it is something that is very common. I am happy you didn't tell me about the mass by your spine that is what they found on my Mom she had back pain for the first time in her life and it turned out to the c word :( which spread. Good luck next week with the epidural Paul had one when they did his spinal tap. What a relief. Hugs, Dru
You sound just like me. However, now with your renewal on life... life is even sweeter. I think of those who really find out bad news. One lady I knew here at work was laid off a few years ago and then found out she had breast cancer. She is in a hospice now. I am glad that you found out that what you are dealing with is treatable... and you aren't alone. I go through the same emotions when it comes to my health. HUGS
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn;
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it wasn't what you feared and I know the cortisone shot will help. Enjoy the boys tomorrow and have a great day and weekend my friend. Hugs
Oh Thank God! I am so glad it isn't the sinister thing, and yes, I had a very strong feeling that's what you were worried about - who wouldn't be? I think everyone would assume the worst.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it's something and nothing (sort of, that jab does not sound like a barrel load of laughs).
So pleased! Now I can go about my day with a spring in my step ... and I'm sure you can too!

Hi Darylynn, I am glad you are doing better. I have had an epidural when I had my csections. That was so long ago and labor is all I remember and not the epidurals. I have a bulging lower disk from an old injury and it flares up now and then. I will keep you in prayer. My dad's obituary came out in the OC Register. It is so hard to believe he is gone.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with your grandsons. Hugs
So glad you're OK :) Enjoy the time with the boys today, and have a lovely weekend
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad that things are ok and not any of your worst fears! It's always scary when you are left on the edge and have questions and no one to answer them.
Enjoy your weekend!
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteIt is so good to hear your fears were off base.
Herniated disk is no fun (in addition to the spinal stenosis I also have disk problems) but, yes, it is sure preferable to the other.
Have a relaxed and pain free weekend.
Hugs
Thank goodness all is well! What a scare. I always think the worst as well, and I'm definitely a worrier.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you! xxx
Hi Darylynn! Happy Friday and March 1st. Thank goodness it's not what you feared! At least now you can rest easy. It's always scary when your brain runs in over time and especially when they say "mass" or ask about the c word. Ugh. Have a great weekend and enjoy your time with the boys. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good news. So grateful it's the lesser of 2 evils. Have fun w/ the boys and a great w/e. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteHappy March, Darylynn! …and considering that meteorological spring starts on March 1: happy Spring! :) So glad for the good news and the cortisone injection will sure help you. :D
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the boys, a big hug!
OMG phew, I'm so relieved for you, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHealth is what matters most, and I'm so glad it's not the worst of case for you.
Sending you all my love.
And now, good luck for the cortisone injection !
xoxo
Happy Monday Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful week ahead.
