Swimming Lessons

Happy August!  Summer vacation is more than half over and the boys are just beginning swimming lessons.  Ryan had summer school so the lessons were delayed.  They went last Saturday for their first lesson and apparently things didn't go too well.  Ryan didn't even want to get in the pool and his reluctance fueled Jacob's concern that he, too, should be scared.  So our mission was to try and get them both to get in our spa, blow bubbles and have water poured on their heads.  What's funny is that they always were fine getting their heads wet and used to jump into a pool into their parent's arms and even go under.  Anyway, mission accomplished.  We were able to get them to walk around the spa in circles on the seat area and then Jeff used my big sprinkling can to pour water on their heads.  Here's a photo.
We may take the boys to one of our free movies today at the Muvico theater.  It's the last Shrek movie, I believe.

  1. Good Morning!
    Shawn is not a fan of water (since birth - he hated his bath!), so I am putting off swim lessons for a while. He has been in a pool a couple of times and after about an hour or so he loosens up and plays, but you can't let go of him!

    I myself am not a huge fan of water (I need to touch the bottom and seeing as I am so short, I stay in the shallow end 99% of the time.) So I don't blame him for being a bit scared.

  2. Hi Darylynn,
    I hope Ryan's next swimming lessons goes well. Jacob I am sure will take diretion from his older brother. That is a funny picture of Jeff and the boys in the spa :)) I can't beleive it is August already kids go back to school here in Burbank 2 weeks I believe. Hope you have a great day. Our weather continues to stay cooler than the norm here? Maybe August will heat up? Hugs, Dru

  3. Hi Darylynn;

    Hard to believe it's August already..
    Awww.. I hope Ryan's swimming lessons will help. Dominic was like that at Ryan's age. I use to put him in the tub with his toys and play games and do what Jeff did, spray water on his head. Swimming lessons changed him for the better. Like Dru said, Jacob will take direction from Ryan.

    Have a great day. Hugs

  4. Hi Darylynn, My grands all love the water and I will mention lessons for Eddie. But Renee's schedule is pretty busy. Eddie is playing T-ball now. I added the last of the Hawaii pictures.
    What a big project! I don't know how far you got. Did you see the Pools-haha> More like white water rafting!

  6. If that doesn't get them keen on water, then nothing will!

    Girly girl love swimming. Her school has a pool so they've been having lessons. She missed a few weeks because of her ear infection, but she was so keen that I said we'd take her swimming in town during summer hols. On the last day all the kids were given a form for us to fill out. Turned out to be a free 4 week pass for all sports centres and swimming pools. Result. I got it sorted out yesterday, and yesterday lunchtime she and Bill went to the pool. I sat and watched (am putting off shoehorning self into swimming costume until I absolutely have to!).

    Thought she wouldn't enjoy it, as the small kids pool was closed for booked lessons, so they had to go in the large pool with the wave machine. She loved it! Had a great time, and will be back again tomorrow.

    I'm glad she likes swimming. I hate it. But that's because I am rubbish. Nearly drowned in Greece (twice, actually! both times had to be rescued. First time by my younger brother, second time by Bill). I'm glad The Girl likes it. I think she'll be good at it in time.

    Hope the boys get to like it soon too.

  7. Good job! Because of the lack of pools here, the boys haven't yet learned how to swim. I know; it is unheard of in CA. Only this year Riley has been looking as if he could get swimming... dog paddling etc. I was going to send him to lessons (which are about $100 for just one kid) HUGS!
