Dueling Doggy Day Care

We are taking Ryan and Jacob to the Ventura County Fair today.  People are surprised to hear that I've never been to a County Fair.  I know they are huge in other parts of the US but not so much in Southern California.  We do have the OC Fair (Orange County) and the LA County Fair but I've never been to either of them.  They run a series of commercials for the LA County Fair that makes fun of ditzy California girls that are clueless about farm animals and such.  Since we are having a triple digit heat wave, it'll be nice to go to the Ventura County Fair which is right on the ocean.  We are taking advantage of the "free evaluations" for doggy day care so the dogs will have a place to be while we are gone for the day.  Cooper will go to Camp Bow Wow since he's never been there before and we need him evaluated before we board the dogs later this month.  Since Kanan has already stayed at Camp Bow Wow, he will be styling today at The Barkley.

Got a clean bill of health on my colonoscopy.  I was not awake at all during the procedure so it must be a heavy dose of Demerol they give you... more than what they give for pain relief.

  1. Good morning!
The Erie County Fair in Buffalo is the largest county fair in the country, so we go to that every year but I think that this year we might not be able to attend (due to being really busy). Which makes me sad because it's only like 45 minutes away and you can spend the entire day there and not see everything.

In my county, I am the 4-H photographer (I posted about this the other day) so I go to "work" but we usually go to that fair as well. It's a lot smaller and more about the "country" side of life - farming, animals, etc. Shawn loves to look at the animals.

I hope you all have a great time! I know I did as a child (my dad had a booth there for a long time, so I would spend days on end at the fair).

Glad your tests came back good :) Have a good day!

  2. OMG! You will love the Fair. If you happen to get to the poultry barn, please check and see if any Silkie chickens are there. That's the breed that I raised when I lived on the farm. They are gorgeous and the boys will love them. My grandkids did anyway! Have a fun day and I hope the puppys do good at the hotels. Hugz!

You have never been to a County Fair? Wow. I have only been to Los Angeles County Fair and the one they have in Del Mar. I have no need to ever go again but kid love them! Good news about the clran bill of health. I guess you don't have to go back for 10 years my Dr makes me do it every 5 so I will be do again in 2 years. Hugs, Dru

  5. I am surprised too that you haven't been to a fair. LA County is so very large but I have great memories with my grandparents and parents there. I remember going to the OC fair after I moved to Costa Mesa after high school. I remember thinking how much smaller it was but it was fun too.

    Have a great day! HUGS

  6. I am surprised that you've never been to a County Fair. We have 4-5 Fairs here every summer. I used to go to 3 of them in Columbia & Dutchess counties and the NYS Fair when my kids were younger and Elena belonged to 4-H. They were fun.
Great news on your colonoscopy procedure. Hope it cools off soon for you my friend. Hugs

  7. I went to one fair long ago and I was not a fan of it at all.
Boardwalks are more my speed I guess.
Some of the displays were not nice and it upset me to be there.
But I hope the fair there is much nicer for you.
    Great news on the test.
    Have a great weekend.
