Ahh Choo!

Ohhh Yeah, I caught a cold!  I've done really well not getting sick despite all the runny noses I wipe but I didn't escape this one.  The good thing is I didn't get the bad sore throat that usually precedes my colds.  Just a runny nose and sneezing a lot. I was telling Jeff how diabolical a cold bug is in that it makes you sneeze and cough therefore perpetuating itself by spewing germs into the atmosphere.  And if you cover your sneeze or cough with your hand then everything you touch is contaminated. Jeff walks around behind me with anti-bacterial wipes.  Jeff took over most of the babysitting duties yesterday like fixing their breakfast and lunch.  I hope this is a short-term cold because Justin and Sarah are coming here on Monday to deliver the dogs and then we are taking them to LAX (airport) on Tuesday for their trip to Europe.  The last thing they need is to be exposed to a cold before their trip.  It's bad enough being in a germy airplane not to mention the drastic change of climate they will be experiencing.  We are in the 80's here and it's in the 40's where they are going.

Have you heard about "Pink Slime?"  It's making me happier about our "Meatless Mondays!" Pink slime is in 70% of all our ground beef.  It's waste trimmings from beef that has been sprayed with ammonia to kill bacteria and then added to ground beef.  It used to be only added to dog food.  How gross is that?  I love a good burger but from now on I will only eat veggie burgers or buy sirloin steak and grind my own.  Maybe you'll join us in Meatless Mondays?  Have a great weekend!

  1. You can check the weathere here. It gives a 7 day forecast, just put in a London postcode and see what weather is expected.

    sorry about your cold. I've got one too - annoying. But it was a matter of time with all the germ ridden kids my Girly Girl spends her time with!

    Well, what to say on the pink slime. When you think about it, eating meat is a vile thing to do. End of. But if you thought about it in too much detail, then we'd all be vegetarians!

    Have a lovely weekend, hopefully pink slime free!

  2. Happy Firday Darylynn!
    Sorry about the cold :( I guess it is hard to escape when you are caring for little ones. Oh yeah I have heard of pink slim but that is not the least of it. All our food including veggies and even so called oraganic are all genetic engineered I believe the cause of the new conditions that people are contracting these days. Scary stuff! Hope you feel better soon. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Dru

  3. Hi Darylynn;

    LOL!! I could just picture Jeff walking around behind you with anti-bacterial wipes. Men!! ;-}

    I stopped eating beef burgers years ago. My ex was a butcher and meat manager in supermarkets ever since he was 15. He came from a family of meat cutters. I use turkey burger whenever burger is called for.

    Feel better soon my friend and don't forget it's DST this weekend. Hugs

  4. I've joined you with the meatless meals except mine is on Friday cuz it's Lent and I don't eat meat on Fridays in Lent.

    Oh no! not a cold! Maybe it's allergies? If not & you're sure it's a cold then Alka-Plus is my best friend. Don't use if you're allergic to aspirin.

    Get better & happy w/e. Hugz!

  7. Hi Darylynn, I am sick too, but am sure its mostly allergies with everything budding and the extreme weather temps plue the high winds. I overall just don't feel good. Never heard of pink slime. Makes me wish we still butchered our own meat. When just never used it all and so much was wasted. Oh well I don't miss meat all the much anyway. *hugs*

  9. Hi Darylynn :D
    Oh my goodness, that is totally gross about the ground beef. I am definitely taking note of that! Beef isn't one of my favorite meats anyways. I am sorry to hear you're sick. When I get colds, I'm like you, I usually get a nasty sore throat. My brother, Paul, has had two colds this winter and he never gets colds. Been the year of the cold everywhere, it seems.

    Well, after all my yabbling and carrying on about FB, I (and Rog, too) decided to hook our accounts back up lol. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for letting us know about that ground beef icky stuff. ((hugs))

  12. I heard about the pink slime. I happen to like ground beef but we do not buy it often. I think I will look into organic ground beef. We mostly eat chicken. When I was at UCI in the 70's we leaned how the usda allowed a % of things in our food because it was impossible to keep it all out. Like canned food and purred tomatoes and more. Then we have an invisible world of microbes that have the ability to wipe us out but our body has a great defense system but every so often we do get sick. Those with weak immune systems really get hit hard. I hope you get well soon and hopefully it is a short lived virus.

  14. I seriously agree that pink slime is disgusting, do you have a grinder? I think their is an attachment for the kitchenaide for that. I have not been eating much beef for six months, I prefer chicken and fish, but once in a blue moon we all want a good burger. I don' t like the veggie burgers tried them twice and through them out both times. Sea pack makes salmon burgers they are excellent . Hugs
