Wild & Wacky Venice

Jeff and I took a Sunday drive down the coast to Venice Beach, my old stomping grounds.  I went to Venice High School.  Venice, California has canals like in Venice, Italy and you may have seen them featured in some movies or the television series, "Californication."  Venice is the number one tourist stop in Southern California.  I guess it beats Disneyland because it's free.  Over the years, Venice has changed from rundown buildings and homes to million dollar homes and upscale businesses.  Still, it hasn't lost it's weirdness factor.  I remember taking Justin and Jessica there when they were young and they thought it was like visiting a different planet.  There are lots of street performers, tattoo parlors, piercing salons, booths selling arts and crafts, palm readers, people who will tell you an insulting joke for $1.00, let you kick them "below the waist" for $10.00, and the list goes on and on.  I took this photo of a Medical Marijuana Clinic where they had a young guy and girl dressed in green scrubs urging passersby to come in and get a prescription for $40.00.  They barked, "Walk on in, fly on out!"  The weird guy in the black bikini photobombed my shot of the clinic.  He's wielding a plastic bat but was harmless enough.  He asked for a dollar and took it well when we passed.

I told Jeff I should ask my doctor for a medical marijuana Rx for my herniated disk!  Can you imagine my wholesome, Harvard-educated doctor in Thousand Oaks getting a request like that?  Makes me laugh just to think about it!  Can you imagine the quality of the doctor lurking behind the doors of that lime green building?  This post has to go under my "Only in LA" category!

  1. Yes, they call Venice Beach the LA Zoo! Best place to go for people watching. I had one girl from a small village in Switzerland come home and shake her head and say, " I never knew such things existed in this world." but she did come home with her nose pierced and said that her mother was going to kill her! I've taken my granddaughter there to have her nose pierced and they have the best toe rings! As far as your doctor, I'm sure he has gotten many requests, I know a lot of well educated people who have a marijuana cards, not to mention much of the younger generation, they are so easy to get, I think I am in the minority! Enjoy the warm weather!!

  2. Hi Darylynn,
Venice is a fun place to go. I have not been there for a few years now. I think I need to take a visit sometime when I have a day off. It was a beautiful day for a visit there that is for sure. In places like Colorado and Washington where weed is legal they don't need RX we are behind in the times here in CA! Hope you have a wonderful Monday. Hugs, Dru

  3. And how does the $40 price of a prescription compare to just buying it from some guy on the street? Are they offering a premium product, immunity from prosecution, green shield stamps? You're right it certainly sounds a unique proposition :) You should have asked your photo bomber for a $1 for leaping in to your shot! Sounds like you had a fun afternoon out :)

  4. LOL! I agree totally with the "Only in LA" category. And I agree with Jackie that you should have asked the photo bomber for $1.00 for leaping into your shot. As for the "Medical Marijuana Clinic" and $40, I'll keep that opinion to myself. :)

Have a great beginning of the week my friend and I pray your back pain disappears. Hugs

  6. The guy is "ripped" for sure but I wonder if his brain is ripped too! My FIL got mj in pill form tp encourage his appetite when he was going through cancer. I wonder if that is what they gave my mom too. Dad said the prescription was $500! Luckily his insurance covered it. It helped for awhile. I need a prescription to stop eating carbs! I have to cut way back again since it has all gone to my middle. Everyone says I look good but I know better. We were in HB last Thursday and it was great. Enjoy the week. Hugs
