Roller Coaster Ride

Yesterday was a "bad back day!"  I am getting so frustrated with my herniated disk problem.  I've been going to physical therapy 3 mornings a week for 4 weeks now and I still have good days and bad days.  When I feel good I get encouraged and think I'm getting better and then I'll have a bad day, like yesterday, and I feel like there's been no progress at all.  It's such a roller coaster ride.  I do know what is bad for me and what makes things worse and that is sitting.  In fact, I think a lot of my problem may be all the time I spend at the computer sitting.  So I'm trying to limit my computer time.  There's times I think I should take a blog break but it's really not that time consuming to write a quick post and make a few visits so I'll hang in there a while longer.  I'm giving myself until June (when I see the doctor again) and if there's still no major improvement, I'll probably have to have the back surgery.  It's not that big of a deal- it's a 90 minute microsurgery procedure with little downtime so we'll see.  At least I'll know I tried my best to help it through physical therapy first.  Waiting any longer than 6 months would be bad as I could have permanent nerve damage.

Thought I'd post a quick photo of Jacob.  Jessica was at the store the other day and Jacob saw a little plastic watering can in the shape of a duck!  He just HAD to have it.  It was only 99 cents so Jessica bought it for him,  She should enjoy these days when he will be happy with such a simple little toy!  He loves helping me water, too.

  1. Hi Darylynn,
You might find that rainy days will aggravate the condition (I also have disc problems as well as the bone troubles of stenosis). I find that heat helps (check with doctor) but, heat and Advil give major relief for me. I have used those wrap around heat thingies (they are great) but I find that a hot water bottle is better for me. I was also told to take sublingual B complex to help my nerves. It strengthens them. So you might like to check that out as well.
I feel for you as the pain can be awful and yes, you must avoid permanent damage.
Jacob and his blonde curls reminds me so much of my own little one. And, don't we still love playing in water as we grow up? I do.
    Many hugs. Feel better soon.

  2. Hi Darylynn,
I am so sorry you are still having trouble with your back. I thought the PT was taking care of that. I can't even imagine what you are going through I have never had that problem but I know plenty of people who have. The surgery doesn't sound too bad! Is that what the Dr had suggested to begin with and try PT first to see if that might help?? Jacob looks adorable in that picture with his duck watering can. Hugs, Dru

  3. Oh my Darylynn; I just came from visiting Annie who also will be having back surgery on Tuesday. I will be keeping you in thoughts and prayers my dear friend. I too know what it's like to live with pain.
Such an adorable photo of Jacob. When my grandson was his age he would love to help with watering the garden and plants too. Take care and feel better soon. Hugs

  4. Hi Darylynn! I'm sorry to read that your back isn't getting better with Physical therapy. :( At least the surgery doesn't sound too bad. Jacob and his duck watering can are adorable! what a cute picture. :) Loved the video of Ryan's school play as well and of course the 4th picture. Beyond cute! Hope you're feeling better and glad the winds shifted for you guys. Have a lovely Wednesday.

  5. What a cute little watering can! If I had seen it I would want it too :-) Sorry about your back. Those types of things can be so frustrating. If you blog by your tablet or set things up where you stand, would that help? I am just throwing out ideas here. I know at work I sit too much and I try to stand and work on the computer. There are all kinds of articles about how bad it is to sit at work for long periods of time like I do. I hope today and all days get better for you. HUGS

  7. Hi Darylyn, sorry to hear you are having so much back pain.. I am stiff in the morning but do better as the day goes on. I also think sitting at the computer makes things worse and I need to exercise. Jacob looks so cute. I would love to get a watering can like that for the kids. Can you let me know where it is from. Thanks and have a great Thursday! Hugs

  8. sorry about the back trouble. I really sympathise. I have a stupid bad back, some days are bad but on the whole I can just sort of block it out and ignore it. It is not fun.

Haven't been around much lately. Nothing wrong, just uninspired. Even Twitter doesn't interest me at the moment. I'm sure it will again soon.

The little helper in the garden is so cute!

    Have a good weekend.
