It's a Zoo!

Remember our peahen from a year or so ago?  Well, she's back!  I first began hearing the extremely loud honk she makes a few days ago and then we saw her walking down the sidewalk.  Yesterday morning she was in our driveway.  Here's a photo of her.

Just after I took the above photo, one of the many bunnies that eat my flowers showed up.

Excuse the quality of the photos.  The iPhone takes good photos but not when you use the zoom feature.

If you've never heard a peacock, I found a very good YouTube video of one.  They title it, "The most annoying sound in the world."

While I agree that it's very loud and annoying, it's still not as bad as that rooster we had waking us up a year or so ago because that was constant cock-a-doodle-doing which began at 4 AM!

You would think we live out in the country instead of a suburb of Los Angeles!  We've had bears in neighborhood pools, coyotes in our front yard, rattlesnakes and even a tarantula once walked in our house!  There are opossums and mountain lions in our nearby hills.
He made the news for his antics swimming in a neighbor's pool

Cranes and egrets are frequent visitors, too.  This is on top of our roof.

Jeff's favorite visitor- the lawn destroying gopher!  He is in a bucket and Jeff relocated him.

And a naughty squirrel in one of my bird feeders

Happy Weekend!

  1. Hi Darylynn,
I use a photo editing program that I can make the picture I already took close up by adjusting the picture it works much better than using the close up to take a picture which I have never used and now I know why ;) It sure is a zoo at your house! Down where I am only raccoons, squirrels and lots of wild parrots. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Dru

  2. I forgot to tell you which one you can scale and move and use your fingers to make it also closer up in like I do. It is called "Vintage" it also gives you great picture effects.

  3. Happy Friday Darylynn,

LOL! Thanks for the trip to your personal zoo my friend. But next time keep the rattlesnakes and tarantula away as they are my worst fear and nightmares. I'll never forget the turkey vultures that would visit the roofs of my brother's block when I was in San Jose. They were gigantic and ugly. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs

  4. Good grief! We've got the animals here but one would expect that near a forest. The squirrels are a little too friendly around here and act like dogs thinking they are going to get a treat. I have to shake my keys at them to stop them in their tracks. There are raccoons too that I thought usually sleep during the day. They can be very mean to cats. Have a good weekend. HUGS

  5. Hi Darylynn, our area gets lot of animals. When we first moved here, there was mountain lion alerts, and we have seen raccoons, possums, coyotes as
recent as last year. When I walk at the park there are squirrels and chipmunks. Lots of lizards too. We use to have large owls in the trees and we had to keep Reina inside because they could attack small dogs. The biggest problem is spiders and ants when the warm weather gets here so hubby is spraying now. Got to keep the kids safe! Have a nice weekend. Hugs
