Hump Day Happenings

Jeff caught the boys' cold so I've had my hands full taking care of my usual responsibilities plus some of Jeff's so my blog posting might be scarce for a few days.  Yesterday, Ryan helped me dig up our flower bed where I plant annuals.  Instead of Iceland Poppies this year, I had Pansies.  I'm getting the bed ready for spring/summer flowers- usually Zinnias- but I may plant something different this year.  I'm always fighting a lot of weeds and grass in this flower bed so I may add some weed killer and maybe a weed barrier.  HERE's a link on eHow explaining what I have in mind.

Meatless Monday continues.  This past Monday I made spaghetti with meatless ground.  Don't ask me ground what?  All I know is there's no pink slime.  I bought this meatless ground at Costco and we added it to a huge jar of Prego Heart Smart Italian Sauce, also from Costco. We only needed one packet (there are 4) of the meatless ground.  I also added mushrooms.  The sauce with the meatless ground tasted fine!  We couldn't really tell it wasn't ground beef.  The big taste test was between 2 different Barilla pastas.  One was whole grain thin spaghetti and the other was Barilla Plus Angel Hair.  You know what, we liked them both. The first has a little more fiber and the second has a little more protein.  The wheat pastas have come a long way since they first came out.  They used to be really tough and tasteless. That's why I bought the thinner pastas like angel hair but I'm guessing pasta like penne would be fine, too.

  2. Hope Jeff feels better soon. AlkaSeltzer-Plus if you're not allergic to aspirin works for me. Spaghetti looks good. What exactly is meatless ground I wonder?

  3. good morning, Darylynn :D

    I hope Jeff is feeling better soon. I loved seeing the Safari trip pics! I hurt my ribs yesterday, just turning oddly, so am on some tylenol with codeine in them. They are strong. I was telling Sadie that I'm feeling numb-ish. no wonder those pills are on the other side of the pharmacist's counter and that you have to ask for them lol.

    We are expecting a huge, naughty snowstorm today and tomorrow. I know, another one! lol. Have a great day. Lots of hugs

  5. Hi Darylynn;

    Hope Jeff feels better soon. From what I remember meatless ground means soy in place of meat. One thing about Italian sauce is it can make anything taste good. ;-}

    I won't be online from Friday until the 15th as my brother & SIL are coming in from CA. My siblings and I will be spending time together all next week. I've already put up my post for Easter to go online for Sunday. So my friend have a lovely day and a blessed Easter. Hugs

  6. Hi Darylynn,

    There are a few places in my front yard that I want to do something different too. I first have to clear out a lot of stuff that has been there for years. I will look at your website. HUGS

  7. What strange meatless meat I have never heard of that. Today was the first time I had beef in about two months. I eat fish, chicken and turkey, but today I BBQ a burger for us and Steve was shocked when he came home and found me cooking beef! have you ever tried the Italian turkey sausage? they have it sweet or spicy hot, the spicy hot is not that hot at all and we love it and I put it in our pasta and use the wheat kind also. I was not a fan of pasta until the wheat pasta came along and the turkey sausage now I love it.
    Hugs
