Ryan's 6th Birthday

Ryan turned 6 on Thursday, the 17th.  He got really sick on Wednesday and Jessica kept him home.  We weren't sure if he'd be okay by his birthday but he was.  Jessica brought in Halloween-themed cupcakes for his class to share.  He wore a crown with his name and 6's in glitter and they sang Happy Birthday to him.  Here's a photo of the cute cupcakes and Ryan with his birthday crown.

I remember when I was growing up having a girlfriend, Katie, whose birthday was really close to Halloween and she would always have Halloween-themed birthday parties.  We would dress up in our costumes and her garage was turned into a pretty great haunted house.  Her grandmother would dress up as a witch and tell us ghost stories.  I think Halloween is a fun holiday.  I like to drink out of my Halloween mugs.
Another fun thing about this time of year is all the craft fairs and local farms that have pumpkin patches and hayrides, etc... We have our local Thousand Oaks Street Fair to go to on Sunday.  I guess one of the things we miss in Southern California is apple-picking.  I never even realized that apples were associated with fall until about 10 years ago when some of my graphic artist friends made fall graphics with apples.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Hi Darylynn! I am glad that Ryan that got better so he could celebrate with his classmates. I love Halloween too and my cousin has a themed birthday party for his son - it's so much fun! I do think that it needs to be cooler outside for the apples, so that could be why you don't have any orchards. Have a terrific weekend! I will be busy preparing for our big Halloween party next weekend!

  4. I'm glad Ryan was well for his bd. Wasn't he poorly just before his bd last year too? It's just that time of year, bugs & germs all over the place.

Love his crown. And the cakes.

How are you now ? Hope your back is better. Or at least well on the way.

    Have a lovely weekend

  5. Hi Darylynn, Happy Birthday to Ryan. I bet he had a fun day at school. He looks so cute with his crown. I think Renee is making cupcakes for Eddie too. Eddie wants a Ninja turtle party this year. I got the kids Halloween colorbooks at Walgreens,2 for $1, Mickey, Dora, Sesame St, and Minnie. I posted a link at my blog that has the pumpkin patch we went to. We want to look into an apple picking place for Nov. I think Apple and Lucerne Valley has them and Julian. Cute story about how you learned from the graphic artist. Hopefully this time next year we will be in NY and Boston. Time to plan for the big 40 anniversary and you too. Have a nice weekend. Hugs

  9. These cupcakes look fun and yummy! In Cali, when I lived there I would take the family to Oak Glen for Fall fun. Here is an address for Oak Glen; http://www.oakglen.net/ . Now I live near the Apple Capitol of the World, Wenatchee http://www.wenatcheewa.gov/index.aspx?page=25 . Here in WA apple harvesting is no joke. I have never seen so many trucks with so many apples on the move in September and October. Love the mugs too. HUGS!
