This first photo goes all the way back to the 1970's. I was a student at UCLA and living at home and this stray mother cat had 3 little kittens in our backyard. A few days after their birth, she took them all away and I was sad about that. A week later she came back with all 3 and left them for good. I kept this boy kitty that I called Gypsy (because of his past) and found homes for the other 2.

I loved this cat soooo much.... he was so affectionate and wanted to be with me
constantly. I even took him out with me on weekends. He used to climb the
backyard fences and one day he came home really sick. Much later we found out
that a man who had bunnies left out poison for cats. He died a miserable death
and I was so traumatized that my mom had to take him to the vets early in the
morning. I was so upset I gave her the wrong address to the vet... and that's
how I ended up eventually meeting Jeff because he worked at the wrong vets. Those of you who've known me for a long time know the story of how we met and began dating. After Gypsy, Jeff and I got another cat- Hobie- and when he was a year or so old he went missing. It was then I learned about the man with the bunnies... he trapped Hobie and took him to a wildlife place (for ducks, etc... ) in the Marina. (I guess he stopped poisoning and went to trapping.) Hobie found his way to a backyard where a man had put out some salmon for his cat and he called us- Hobie still had his nametag on- this was 6 weeks later! We never thought we'd see him again. We were so happy to have him home...it was like a miracle. After that, we printed up a letter to all the neighbors exposing this man - we gave his name and address- and passed it out to all the houses in the neighborhood. When we moved to Agoura Hills, Hobie and Jeff's two cats- Mark and Mickey- came with us. Here's a photo of Hobie Cat!

Finally, I found a photo of Clancy! I'll bet you thought we've only ever had big dogs like goldens and labs. Well, here is the pound puppy I brought home one day. This photo was taken at the park- neutral teritory- when we first got Dylan as a puppy and wanted to introduce him to Clancy. Clancy was so taken aback by the boisterous little Dylan that he climbed up Jeff's back for protection.

HI Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos and memories. I never doubted you were an animal lover from birth. :) I think furry friends have the best of home and life when they are with you and Jeff. And hopefully that "bunny" man ended up getting his just dessert in time.
Have a lovely weekend my friend. Hugs
Hi Darylynn, that was a nice walk down furry lane. Pets give so much to us. I still can't think of getting another pet. I have "fake"Reina that my sister got me after my Reina died. I put her color on it. I am forever blessed by the gift you sent me in her honor. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel to animals. I think it was smart to pass flyers out to warn others. Have a nice week. Hugs
ReplyDeleteyey a new post! After I left my tag I thought 'good grief, that sounded really rude' but I just wrote it the way I'd say it. sometimes I'm a little direct.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post. It's true, you never forget your pets. Years ago, my first cat was called Nelson. He died in exactly the same way as your Gypsy. Our stupid neighbours kept rabbits which ended up in their oven, or sold to other rabbit eaters. Vile people, each to their own, but I didn't think it was suitable for a domestic back garden. They put down poisoned meat allegedly for rats, but of course, Nelson came along and ate it. He had a miserable death.
Glad you got Hobie back ,and I'm glad you exposed the cat hating man of the neighbourhood. What a nasty piece of work.
Clancy! Great name, gorgeous looking doggy.
Thanks for your comment and letting me know you'd posted. You are missed. But I get it. You have been blogging a long time, and it is nice to take a step back. I've deliberately kept posts short on the new blog, and limit it to one photo per post. Less time consuming, and quite often I have a stack of scheduled posts.
Have a lovely weekend. Girl is on half term now, so we are off to The London for a day next week. Hurrah. Some decent shopping! Can't wait :O)
xx
Aww what sweet & touching post. Pets can not be forgotten, even more those who left in such horrible conditions. So great that you had photos of them. Thanks a lot for sharing them here.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful weekend !

Hi Darylynn, Great memories and pictures of your past fur babies. The Pawprints left by you got me crying over Billy Elliott again. 6 weeks and I am still pretty raw new kitty and all. I still feel like he is here! Hope you have a wonderful rest of the weekend. Hugs, Dru
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteGreat memories and photos. Pawprints is so beautiful and true.
I had to laugh at the name Hobie Cat.
Only a diehard beach lover would name their cat "Hobie Cat". Love it!!!
Hugs
Always so happy to see a post from you. I've joined the ranks of folks with back problems. Sciatic nerve R leg. Quite miserable. Loved walking down Memory Lane with you. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn!
ReplyDeleteI loved looking at your old photos and that's terrible about that man poisoning the cats. We used to have someone down the street doing that but they got in some serious trouble and don't do it anymore. It's great when you find old photos. :) It's good to see a post from you! Have a terrific day!
Aww, Darylynn, your post has me crying. Your past pets were so beautiful and Pawprints makes me think of my beloved Sparky. I miss him so much. So beautiful memories you have. Hugs
