The little silver compact in the photo is a gift from their trip last year to Istanbul. I have placemats and coasters from Sarah's Vietnam/Thailand trip and a wine bottle holder from their Costa Rica trip last August. We also have refrigerator magnets from exotic places they've visited. Since they only travel with carry-on luggage, they have to keep their souvenirs small.
I saw my Orthopedic doctor on Monday and told him that, unfortunately, the cortisone shot didn't really help much. He'd like me to have microsurgery because he's concerned about nerve damage if this herniated disk keeps pressing on my nerve. The last three toes on my right foot tingle all the time like they're asleep which is a sign that it's affecting the nerve. I'd like to give it more time to see if it gets better on it's own because it often does after 6 months or so and it's only been 3 months. I'll try and wait until after summer before I consider surgery. In the meantime, I'm going for physical therapy and I begin that on Friday. Besides what they want to do for the disk, I want them to tell me what exercises I can safely do because I'm used to exercising 3 times a week and have been afraid to do that for fear of further injuring my back. I'm not happy losing the muscle tone I've worked hard to maintain.

Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteI forgot they only travel with carry on. No way could I do that but it is so smart that is for sure! Cool souvenirs! Have fun at Justin's today. Sorry about your herniated disk not getting better :( I am hoping the PT will make it a little better for you! Hugs, Dru
Hi Darylynn. Glad the kids are home safe & sound. Great gifts. I'll be watching Survivor tonight too so see you there. So sorry to hear the cortisone shot isn't as effective as was hoped. Hope the P.T. helps. Have fun at the doggie beach. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteHappy hump day, Darylynn! I sure wish I could travel with carry on only but I always over pack. Good for them that they are able to do that. The souvenirs sound wonderful and I love the masks!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read that the shot didn't help your back much and even sorrier to hear that they recommend surgery. :( Whatever happens, I sincerely hope that you're feeling better soon!
Have a fun day today and enjoy Survivor! Do you have any favorites yet? I'm still undecided on who I want to win. Hugs.
good idea to put off surgery, worth seeing if it all sorts itself out first. No reason for it not to. Hope the physio helps.
ReplyDeletesweet goodies you've been going. They HAD to bring masks back from Venice really didn't they? It's what people go to see and buy.
Have a lovely day, and the rest of the week. I'm all confused after having a Bank Holiday Monday. But then it doesn't take much to confuse me these days!

My feet and toes have been 'asleep' now for a long while and other nerves in the saddle area are now being pinched. I can barely walk or stand anymore so surgery is no longer an option for me. But I have stenosis too, which you do not have. I am sure they can improve your situation with therapy.
ReplyDeleteI have heard some great recovery stories from it.
My daughter collects masks like that. Those are so pretty.
Hope your Wednesday with Justin is lovely and enjoy Survivor!
Hugs
Fun little gifts from far away places. I agree (as if I get a vote) that putting off surgery is a good idea. I believe the same as you, that the body can heal after a while and it needs time to give it a chance. HUGS
ReplyDeleteYes I would be waiting to see if it got better as well. You don't want to have unnecessary surgery. Hope it's sooner rather than later, it must be enervating having the constant tingling. How lovely to have such fab souvenirs - not long now till we're off to Rome, can't wait!
