Shopping for Free!

The other day when Jeff and I went down to coast to Santa Monica, I had a couple of Pottery Barn coupons burning a hole in my pocket.  One was "Spend $50.00- get $25.00 Off" and then I was sent a "Reward Certificate" which you get when you buy things on a Pottery Barn credit card.  You get 10% rewards from prior purchases.  The reward certificate was for $25.00 so that meant I could get $50.00 worth of stuff for free!  How can you beat that?  Problem is, I have pretty much decorated out my living room so it's hard to find things I need.  I have plenty of Pottery Barn pillows and pillow covers for every season, lots of glasses, serving dishes, you name it so it's hard to find something I need and/or have room for.  Anyway, I was determined to find something so I bought got this oil-rubbed bronze bird sculpture/votive holder that goes perfectly with my fireplace screen and tool set.  I was also able to get a silver starfish and some decorative pebbles for a lantern I bought.  That's a whole other story...

If you browse the Pottery Barn catalog or website, you'll see lots of lanterns and they run from $100-$200.00.  I found a rustic-looking lantern that I loved at TJ Maxx/Home Goods.  It was so similar to the Pottery Barn lanterns and I even liked it more and it was only $19.99!  I had planned to use it on the patio but when I brought it home, Jeff liked it so much that he thought I should put it in the living room on our server.  During the summer, I have a beachy seashore theme in my living room so the silver starfish and pebbles from Pottery Barn and some shells and driftwood that I had were added to the lantern along with a battery-operated candle.  Here's a photo.  They look small in the photo but they are quite large and tall!

Here's the lantern with the lit candle before I added the accessories.  I love the rope handle.

On Monday, I'll show you more great deals I got at TJ Maxx for the garden...some great planters for herbs and an interesting big carved wooden pot that we turned into a fountain!  Have a great weekend!

  1. It always makes me laugh that that shop is called TK Maxx here - I wonder why they thought it necessary to change the letter :) Your candle holder was a good spot - I often wonder how some of these places can justify the high prices.Your summer seaside theme is lovely :)

  2. I really like the look of lanterns and the 19.99 is really nice. I'd choose that one over the PB one anytime at that price.

Here is Florida, it's TJ Maxx. That is strange that they would change the letter for another location.

    Have a lovely day! ((Hugs))

I love TJ Maxx, Home Goods and Marshalls for good deals. I have found lovely things there, especially sheets and blankets on sale.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  4. Hi Darylynn! Wonderful buys! I love your post about home decor, especially since you have such wonderful taste! I too love Pottery Barn but very seldom shop there unless there is a sale. I'm with you on Home Goods, I try to get there whenever possible. Hope you have a great weekend! I can't wait to see more of your decorations. Hugs

  8. I'm like Jackie, I've always wondered why here in GB we had to have a different letter to what is clearly the same as your TJ Maxx!

You found some great goodies. I'm cutting down on buying what I like to call 'frills and fancies'. And now I'm laughing at typing that, becuase it's true I am TRYING to cut down, but I'm not sure I'm managing to actually do it! My motto this year is 'simplify', I'm trying to ditch stuff. Trying is the key word!

    Have a lovely weekend xx
