Catching Up

Sorry to go missing again but I am struggling with mixed feelings about blogging.  I guess I'm just plain tired of writing posts after 11 years of pretty consistent posting.  I'm not tired of my blog friends or reading their posts at all though and I miss you all and think about you often!  So I'll do a quick catch up of what's been going on.  As you know it's a busy month filled with birthdays and an anniversary.

I started Physical Therapy last week and will go twice weekly for 6 weeks.  I thought it would be mostly core-strengthening exercises but I'm also getting the little electrode zappers and the best part... a nice massage!  I'm feeling pretty close back to normal although they tell me that sciatica nerve may take a while to completely calm down.

Ryan is back in school and doesn't get home until almost 3 PM so I only have a little over an hour with him each day.  Jacob, on the other hand, is here all the time.  He's still really good about his "Quiet Time" so he's in the downstairs bedroom with cartoons turned on at low volume and has my iPad and Jeff's Kindle.  9 times out of 10, he falls asleep so he's usually in there from 1 to 3 PM.  He was resistant to taking naps but since he falls asleep so often, it's pretty obvious he still needs naps... as long as we don't call it nap time!

Justin and Jessica both had their birthdays and Justin had some interesting developments at work.  The computer projects he's been doing for the last 10 years were winding down so he was beginning to wonder if he was going to need to dust off his resume and start looking for something else.  He was given the opportunity to do some work as a "Business Analyst" and really loved it.  He's a very good writer and in addition to his Computer Science degree, he has a Communications degree from UCLA so he was able to apply those skills to the Business Analyst work.  He had a big interview for a Business Analyst position within his company, Computer Sciences Corporation, and he got it.  The project is out of the Boston office but he will be able to work from home!  He and Sarah are going to San Francisco and Santa Rosa (Wine Country area) this weekend (the trip a birthday present from Sarah) and we will be dog sitting Sierra while he's gone.

Speaking of wine... remember my wine glass chandelier from Pottery Barn?  I found this at HomeGoods to hang on the wall.

What I love about shopping at HomeGoods is I usually go there with nothing special in mind and it's fun to find something unexpected.  I also got some really nice fillable seeded glass lamps there for our bedroom. Don't think I'll fill them with anything but I like the way the glass sparkles.  The shades are burlap  and I have them on a dimmer switch.  Lamps like this cost 3 times as much at Pottery Barn!  I often shop at PB or PB online for ideas and find similar items for much less at HG's!

My comment above about finding something unexpected reminded me of the word Serendipity.  It's a word that I love and always reminds me of our dear friend Elizabeth whose first blog was named Serendipity. "Serendipity means a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise"; a fortunate mistake. Specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it. The word has been voted one of the ten English words hardest to translate in June 2004 by a British translation company."  Serendipity is also the name of that fabulous restaurant in Manhattan where you can get Frozen Hot Chocolates.  And don't forget the movie Serendipity!

I haven't been able to get back my desire for it. I miss it, but hard to get back. I did start posting in my SWD last Monday, so hope to continue that. And I'm on Twitter now. I love your finds! I too love HomeGoods. I didn't know the meaning of Serendipity! That is so neat! I'll be back tomorrow to catch up on your life. I peeked at the boys. They are getting so big!! Hugs

I know exactly what you mean about blogging. For me, I get the urge in spurts but I'm pretty dedicated it to it now. For how long, that's yet to be determined. lol I'm really giving a good go this time.

  5. Happy Birthdays to all! And very happy anniversary to you and Jeff.
Its good to hear you are liking physical therapy.
Yes, takes a while for nerves to get back. I was told it would be 18 months until I see if I regain feeling in places. Sciatic still flares up but not half what it once was and it was horrible.
You will make a great recovery. I am so glad you got help early. Makes a difference.
Don't feel pressure to post. Updates are nice. We care about how you are and how you're doing.
    Hugs

  6. Hi Darylynn, Happy Anniversary to you and Jeff and HB to Jessica and Justin. I am happy you updated us. Please don't stop blogging. I can see you cut back, even to once a week, but don't stop. You still have a large following of friends and FB just doesn't cut it. Enjoy your PT. Hugs

  8. Hi Darylynn, I enjoy your posts. I am thinking about going back to writing on my blog again now that the weather is going to turn. It just is too hard to not be out and about when the weather is nice around here. You put some things aside. Writing was one of them. HUGS

You've certainly been a busy bee. And good luck to Justin in his new job.

  10. Serendipity is a favorite word of mine as well.
My niece and I went to Serendipity 3 for frozen hot chocolate. Will you and Jeff ever take a trip East?

  11. Hi Darylynn, I enjoyed reading your post and I understand your feelings on blogging. Every day I go through the same thing of should I or shouldn't I? But I now post when I feel like and hope we never stop keeping in touch this way. I think Facebook ruined blogging for a lot of us.
Funny how we all thought of Elizabeth this week. I watched Serendipity the other night and it brought her to mind. Belated birthday wishes to the kids and a very Happy Anniversary to you & Jeff.
I'm glad PT is helping you. I only have one more session to go. Have a lovely weekend my friend. Hugs

  12. Darylynn - I would sure miss it if you stopped blogging. Maybe just post once a week instead of daily. Your posts have always been so entertaining and refreshing!
I do like that lamp. I've been looking for one like that to put sea shells in. I found one at Target that I thought was a bit pricey but the, that may be what they cost.
I'm glad that Jacob is good with his quiet time. Isn't he the one that did some unauthorized shopping at amazon? :D
Hope your PT goes well. I've had those zappers too - didn't particularily like them! ((Hugs))

  14. Hi Darylynn,
Happy Birthday to Jessica and Justin! And Happy Anniversary to you and Jeff. :) September is a busy month for our family as well.
Congrats to Justin on career advancement!
I am so glad you are feeling better. That is great news.
Dan's knee is improving, pt is finished, but he has exercises to do at home. He has an echocardiogram and an appt. with the cardiologist on Oct.1.
I do hope you don't stop blogging, but I understand how you feel. I don't blog as much as I would like to, life just gets busy. I do enjoy blogging on blogger, I tried going back to the old way, but just wasn't into it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
    HUGS

  19. Good to hear your son got a good position at his company he already works for. Shane finally got a good job working for a local hospital that is here and in the bay area along with Davis and he puts in programs at all the computers and whatever they need that has to do with computers as far as updates and fixes. Not really using his BA degree knowledge but it did help him get the job we think. Have a wonderful day. Hugs
