Thankful for Thanksgiving

When November rolls around and we think of things we are thankful for, I always think of how thankful I am for America's very special holiday:  Thanksgiving.  It's such a heartwarming feeling to see how so many families come together to enjoy this day.  Over the hills and through the woods to grandmother's house we go.  The airports are crowded with travelers trying to get home sweet home.  It's a holiday without "presents" but rather the gift of togetherness.  When I sit down to dinner with my family, I smile thinking of all the families sharing pretty much the same meal:  turkey, stuffing, yams, cranberries. maybe that green bean casserole, pumpkin pie and all those traditional dishes that we often only have once a year.

Here's one of my favorite photos of a turkey I cooked a couple of years ago.
Pretty proud of how it looks- almost magazine worthy!

This is my "Special Yam Casserole" I make for Thanksgiving.
Recipe follows along with another family favorite,
Auntie Joy's Zest Carrots:

Let's dig in and be thankful for all we have living in America!

  1. Hi Darylynn! Yes, I love that it is a holiday without presents too. There is something very comforting to know most people are probably doing the same exact thing on the very same day. One of these years I really need to try your Special Yam Casserole. Have a wonderful day! Hugs

  4. Hi Darylynn; Happy Blog Hop Day. I too love Thanksgiving and not just the food. I love families getting together and thankful for friends online and off. This year we'll have about 30 family & friends and we'll celebrate on the 15th for that's when most will be able to make it. Your photos made me hungry and your recipes are wonderful. Hugs

  8. Happy Blog Hop Day Darylynn! I too love Thanksgiving. And yes, I think your turkey is magazine worthy! Wow! How beautiful! You know what - I agree, maybe time for a change from the marshmallow topped yams. I am going to try your recipe this year, as well as your aunt's carrot dish. So now, it will be like I have a bit of you joining us at our meal. I love that thought. I'm thankful for you. I really miss your posts each day, & still hang onto the hope that you will come back one day. Until then, I will be happy with whatever post you might give us. Hugs!
