As the sign says, this flea market is held on the second Sunday of every month. Some people never miss a month and many come from all over California to attend. It's really huge and would take all day long to walk around and see everything. I hadn't been in probably 5 or more years and I think it's been 30 years since Jeff came along. He was a good sport and didn't complain but I think we both felt it was not our cup of tea. One of the notable changes since I was there a few years back was they have completely cracked down on all the counterfeit handbags! Aw! You used to be able to pick up a Louis Vuitton bag for 20 bucks! I know some people are opposed to fake handbags but me... not so much. I think it's totally ridiculous the prices they charge for handbags... often in the thousands and even tens of thousands. HERE's a site listing the 10 Most Expensive Handbags in the world.
The other interesting thing is that with all the smart phones, you can easily check if you're getting a good deal on something. I came across a booth selling Melissa & Doug Toys and I was able to quickly check and see that I could get the same thing through Amazon.com for the same price or less. I guess you can use that as a bargaining tool but I'm not that much into haggling over prices even though it is expected there.
They have a huge section of "vintage clothing" but it made me wonder if those sellers don't scout out all the Goodwill Stores and other thrift shops and then bring that junk to this event. I am not much on thrift shops either... they always make me feel itchy! Maybe there's something to that name... "Flea Market!"
Boys are both here today for Veteran's Day so Jeff and I are hoping to take them on a hike or something to enjoy our beautiful 85 degree weather! Happy Veteran's Day!

Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteI have not been to the Flea Market there in a long time and the last time I went I knew it was not my cup of tea also. Kind of fun walking around and checking it out but I will never go back myself. Have fun with the boys today. I never know how to dress anymore since it heats up in the 80's in the day time and then it is cool at night. Hugs, Dru
I feel the same way about thrift shops.
ReplyDeleteI was with a friend a month ago and she stopped to look in a thrift store and I just could not wait to get out of there!
Have a good time with the boys today.
School here today, which surprised me. I thought they always closed on Veterans Day but not anymore.
Hugs
It was also Armistice Day here & the boys were off school. We had a nice weather, but very windy & it's getting chillier at long last !! Sometime last week it was up to 27°C ! Almost like in summer, that was crazy !
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great week ahead !
xoxo
I'm hysterical over your 'itchy' remark cuz that's a 'me too'. Hugz!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about those expensive hand bags. I have many other things I'd rather spend my money on than a hand bag! :) We have a couple of flea markets near us but I haven't gone in quite some time. Have a great day. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI don't care for charity shop shopping either. I often dream that one day I'll venture into a hidden one, rootle around and find a vintage Chanel suit for £5 or something, but that's highly unlikely!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'd have been sniffing around the fake Louis back when they sold them, don't you?!
have a good week. x
The charity shops around here are horrible, with old crap and nothing nice, but the flea-markets in Paris are amazing with real vintage pieces. :D
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warm weather and the boys, it feel like winter already here. Brrrr...........
Yep, the carousel was built only in 1999, but it sure looks much older. :)
Happy evening to you!
Hi Darylynn, I am not into that flea market stuff either, Steve likes it quite well though and goes without me as we have a pretty good size one not far from our house. They do have a lot of yummy produce.
ReplyDeleteI had read about the ports cracking down on the counterfeit purses. I can see that would not be right it is stealing a design from another and it is hard to sell your product when someone is stealing your design, but on the other hand, it is also part of competition and a free market thing. But to have someone else's name on the bag is very wrong. Sometimes I do wonder if the officers who crack down on this stuff has nothing better to do but they say it is a huge revenue loss when it happens. We need the $$$, so I guess they better keep up the good work!
Have a great week. Hugs
Hi Darylynn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge flea market. I don't think I have been to any place like that!
Hope you are having a lovely Thursday.
Hugs
Hi Darylynn, Hubby and I use to go to the OC Swap Meet at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds when they were first around. Lot of cool finds. Home grown was there too. Now everything is so commercialized and high priced. I did find a bunch of cute little kid cars at one place in Riverside. Cleaned them in diluted bleach and the kids had fun with them. I must have gotten about 30 for $3. Toys R Us had them for $3.99 each. I look for sales at Target and Wal-Mart and the kid in me likes Toys R Us. I just posted the link to Eddie's party at my blog along with a page I did for the season. Sure enjoyed our days of homework. Have a great rest of the week. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Darylynn! I'm not into flea markets either! I completely agree with you on handbags! I was in Kohls and it was crazy what they wanted for a Vera Wang bag. I opened the bag and looked at the label, "Made in China" put the bag down and walked away. Markup on this stuff is well over 100% because they are "famous designers". I don't buy used clothing either. Have a great Friday and a beautiful weekend. Hugs!
